Over folk rock
Folkrock is een fusiongenre van rockmuziek met sterke invloeden uit pop, Engelse en Amerikaanse volksmuziek. Het ontstond in het midden van de jaren zestig in de Verenigde Staten, Canada en het Verenigd Koninkrijk. In de VS kwam folkrock voort uit de heropleving van de volksmuziek. Artiesten als Bob Dylan en The Byrds – waarvan verschillende leden eerder in folkensembles hadden gespeeld – probeerden de klanken van rock te vermengen met hun bestaande folk-repertoire, waarbij ze gebruik maakten van elektrische instrumenten en drums op een manier die voorheen in de Amerikaanse folkwereld werd afgeraden. De term 'folkrock' werd voor het eerst gebruikt in de Amerikaanse muziekpers in juni 1965 om de muziek van The Byrds te beschrijven.
